Anyone still using Mini-Discs ?

I haven slept the whole night even though I haven slept properly (or at all in the case of marjong night) for the past few night. Might be because of something Willie said by the Singapore River. Or maybe my bio clock just stoped working.

I just finished reading Shopaholic and Baby. An emotional roller coaster I tell you! I SWEAR!

I wish that no matter how it rains, your socks never get wet. That and someone will always pull you back when an orange-ultan's drooling right above your head. (THE LAO NUA ALMOST HIT MINE TODAY!)

Wednesday, April 11

(To jean in particular) This is the High 5 of my life. In all coincidence, one of my closest group of friends form a group known to the would as High5! So read the post on the 16 of March again carefully cause that high5 was for my St Nicks darlings. (Because you see, NUSH high five only happened after the post) haha, Its not that confusing- I hope.

Will continue the fruitless process of updating my blog when I come back from Tanglin Camp! (that on Friday folks!) Till then, learn to sing world!

Sunday, April 8

One, two, three, four - HIGH FIVE!

We'll make you scream
Make you cry
When you're up against 205

We'll make you drop
Make you tear
Be the one and only thing you fear

Coz 205 rawks
Coz 205 rules
205 205 forever ku!

NUS high gave me the group that even Pillay himself was impressed with - much less little old me. HIGH 5 was awesome in every single aspect and to debrief without praise was entirely impossible.

Yet,this was the first group that I only came in contact 3 weeks after camp itself. In the midst of blogging this post because they themselves didnt contact me since after camp - the first of my groups to not have done so. This group of highly intelligent, giving and sensible students honestly changed my impression of students of that age.

One event to prove such would be the competition i held for "Turn over a new leaf" (a game in which players have to get onto a ground sheet and then proceed to turn it over). Usually in a competition (especially one which concerns the pride of genders), campers go all out to win. But not for High5. The boys very nicely allowed, or rather, pushed for the girls to come over to their mat and hence complete the game in the shortest time possible, even if it meant that they would lose the game.

Completely on their own initiative, this group turned competition into cooperation. Something that meant so much more than just completing the game in whatever breakneck speed. That, I feel, was one incident that truly touched my heart and affirmed the fact that High5 was a group that didnt quite fit into reality.

This group was so strong that the flag was never lowered for one moment (many thanks to Jean) and the way to find out if any one of them was around was simply to go Everybody dance now and you'll know if they're there if a response is heard. No kidding! But that wasnt just why they were the best. They were the best group because not only did they start of strong, cohesive and united, they were also responsive, open to both Pillay and I, and willing to learn and improve. Right as the start of the camp, one of them told me confidently : you're very lucky to have picked our class. Cause we are the best! To which my response was to laugh. But after seeing them through 3 days 2 nights, I'm proud to proclaim these group of High 5 the very very best!

I'm super glad to have gotten High5, although someone (Think its Mojo) told me that sometimes it may not be a blessing to get a good group because as an instructor, you learn less. But I find that untrue in the case of High 5 because they showed me the extent of unity a group can display - the enthusiasm and the dynamics. At the same time, I learnt alot from Pillay about how to push a strong group as such to greater heights, and how I keep having to make my debrief a power ones cause I'm all too aware that these kids will not be satisfied with a less than comprehensive one. Simply because they are so intelligent and also, they are the best and they know it. The challenge was how to point out their strength without leading them to complacency as well as their minute flaws so as to perfect this group. I'm glad to say thanks to their support together with Pillay's heartfelt comments, we did it together! Five in the air lets do it together (:

Haha, night activities for both night took all my sleep away. The first night I waited and waited for Yana to go and sleep but when everything was ready and supper was washed down, suddenly everyone decided to go "talk cork sing song". What a blow that was I tell you. So we laughed at the funniest things till the wee hours and although I was completely wasted, I vividly remember it being the funniest!

Second night was disturbed by Melvin Loy Zhu Sheng. Okay so it was hotter then usual and the mosquitoes were getting worriedly too many. But the peak was when Melvin woke me up when I was tossing and turning happily in my sleeping bag in hut 13. Well if you had seen his face above you at that time, bet you would have screamed the hut down! Disturbing my precious and much needed sleep didnt seem enough for him though. At 330, we then had to go on our big adventure, listening to dog fights, freaking ourselves out and then visiting the super super dark kayak shed. In the dark with only Melvin's hp light, it was seriously damn freaky i tell you! (But now to think of it, we were complete idiots! Why did we even go there in the first place? MELVIN LOY's bright idea!) So when the dog suddenly barked, WE (Yes, the BOTH of us!) screamed and dashed back to the MPH and by then, we could forgot about sleeping already la, even if we werent like too scared to sleep. I dont think I'll ever forget that night seriously, with Melvin and his Wo hen pa leh, na xie gou yi zhi zai jiao. Ni zhi dao ma? Gou jiao hui you bie the yi si. (i.e I'm very sacred. The dogs keep barking! You know when dog barks, sometimes it means that they can see other beings). And his expression - PRICELESS. hahahhaha

Something that also was very touching was that Potato actually lent me his hammock to sleep in when I told him I've never slept in a hammock before. I mean like how sweet is that you tell me! (:

Team Reds

IJ spirit burning bright, fill our hearts with love and light.
Light to shine for all to see - love begins with you and me.

The IJ song was spot on. St Nicks girls are proud to call us such. However, it isnt often you'll hear us (or even any IJ girl maybe?) terming ourselves purely as IJ girls. Perhaps especially in the case of st nicks, we really dont interact much with the other IJ schools - dispite us fondly terming each other as IJ sisters. Heck, I didnt have a single IJ friend until I went to JC.

CHIJ St Theresa's camp showed me the IJ spirit does indeed penetrate through the IJ schools - regardless of generation, academic capabilities and school. Yet, this camp could so easily have not been. I wasnt ready to take on camps as I just had my braces fitted and could foresee the troubled mealtimes. Yet when Neng called me just 2 days before it, the false sense of desperation he projected led me to agree to take up this camp.

Thankfully, I did. The girls were loving, giving, sporting, loud, enthusiastic, sensible - and in short, they had the makings of whatever a IJ girl was supposed to become.

Taking my group, I felt more like their friend over anything else. Its been almost 2 months (yes, I know this post is long overdue), but their love has touched me like no other group has- such when I look at the flag they presented to me with a message from all of them and their contacts, what i see is not just another memory from a group. Its a part of me I hold so dear its almost like I refuse to accept that these girls have moved on without me.

Anyhows, this loving group of mine gave me a ball of a time and more often then not, they were more of friends then anything else. A great pity I couldnt contact them and all the hp numbers and email adds scribbled with such hope has to go unanswered. Yet, I thank God he arranged for this meeting. :D Through these girls, I've learnt more about myself and the beauty of love. I'm not saying I've matured and entered the world of experience and hence love becomes a sacred commodity in my life. What I'm saying is through these girls, I see for myself the power of love and strengthen my determination to ensure that such a precious gift is never lost in myself.

Saying goodbye to these lovelies was awfully hard I swear.

I also grew as an instructor yes. Yet, I remember clear as day - Big Jeremy telling on the first day how I need to maintain a more instructor-like image. Axe the cuteness and draw the line where its needed, he said. Some instructors get this so easy - they look the instructor part (think Pillay and Neng) and some bank on pure charisma (think Willie and Azri). I guess its about time this image has to be projected for myself. Haha, how? I'm still figuring out. (:

Serious stuff aside, this camp was one combined with Clementi Woods Sec. And lo and behold! Who should I have met there but Mr Wong himself? (Who, at this moment in time is snoring loudly on the carpet in my hall) (: The world is too small sometimes! Hence we got to meet the Clementi Woods instructors and people as well. Nothing much on that - rather, nothing much that should be mentioned here. (:

Mirror Sam and I also finally got to really talk in this camp - yay! And we're 2/3 of Renhao's angels! hahha, damn funny the last day was! When we spent a total of like 6 hours waiting for Ridhuan to come in. Definitely one of my fond memories of Jbac!

Dont you agree? Having fun should sometimes come before everything else. But usually in all sanity, we fail to realize that and spend too many sad hours trying to pretend to be someone we really arent.
